Nellie Kay Carlisle

The worst day of our lives. How do I begin to put this into words?

This morning I woke up ecstatic that I went the entire night without cramping, I thought maybe things were looking up. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

At 8:45am on Thursday, 7/27, I unexpectedly gave birth to our baby girl at home. The first time I saw Nellie Kay, she was so tiny but so beautiful. I never loved anything so much. I immediately called 911 and the paramedics sprung into action, loading us both into the ambulance. They did everything they could for Nellie, and she fought so hard. When we arrived at the hospital they told me what I already knew, she was too small and too underdeveloped to survive. Codey arrived as they placed her in my arms for her final breaths. It was the hardest moment of our entire lives. The day we both became parents and also had to say goodbye to our beautiful baby girl. She was absolutely perfect, a combination of Codey and I. She had Codey's perfect cheekbones and my nose.

While our hearts shattered into a million pieces, we still had our baby boy to continue to fight for. We were airlifted to United Hospital where we were admitted and told how incredibly rare our situation was. There was nothing we could do, or the doctors could do for our baby boy. Our only option was to wait and hope I didn’t go into labor again.
