25 Day NICU Update
Hi everyone,
Let me start off by saying that by the grace of God, Clifford is still with us and still fighting. We are truly in awe of this little guy's strength.
24 hours ago, I wasn't sure what this update would look like. Yesterday he still hadn't produced urine (48+ hours total), and we weren't sure how much time Clifford had left with us. Feeling helpless, we did the only thing we could do, surround him with love. Our families came to Clifford's bedside, some meeting him for the first time, and there is no doubt in my mind that he felt all of our love. Codey and I spent every minute with our sweet boy, reading him books, giving him kisses for the first time, and holding his little hand.
After three days (72+ hours) of no kidney function, no urine, countless medications, blood transfusions, and pokes, Clifford finally peed this morning. Over 85ml in 6 hours - which is a lot! We have never been so happy for pee - the nurses and doctors too. This meant his kidneys were working again and Clifford could continue his fight. While this is a huge win, he isn't out of the woods; he's still recovering from infections, on very high ventilation to support his lungs, and his kidneys are still injured. He's also very puffy and bloated from the amount of fluids that have built up. However, today we are going to celebrate another day with our sweet boy.
Words can't begin to express how thankful we are for your prayers. They say having a baby in the NICU is a rollercoaster, but that is the biggest understatement. Nothing can prepare you for the amount of love you feel for your child and the fear of losing them that comes with it. One thing is certain, Clifford is tough and he continues to beat all odds. We're so proud of him.
Thank you again for the outpouring of love and support we feel every day from you all.
With love,
Sadie
