118 Day NICU Update

Hi everyone,

I’m so very happy to update you that Clifford’s tracheostomy surgery and recovery has gone great! Many tears were shed when he was wheeled back into his room and we saw his beautiful (full) face for the first time. Over the past five days, they kept Cliff very sedated to keep him from moving so everything can heal. He was able to get lots of rest.

This morning Clifford had his first trach change and the surgeon said everything is healing nicely. I was also able to hold him for the first time post-op! With the trach, taking him out of his crib is much easier, and I even was able to rock him. They’re starting to wean down his sedation too, so we’re seeing him a little more alert. As the weeks go on, he will be able to move around much more, start to play and bottle and breast feed. I can already tell how much more he is liking the trach and having the tube out of his mouth — Codey and I are so happy to see him more comfortable. We can’t wait to start seeing the progress he will make!

For the first time, doctors are even talking about us coming home. Words we weren’t sure we would hear, and prayed so hard for not long ago. We still have milestones we have to meet, and we’re not sure how long they will take, but we’re so ready to begin (hopefully) this last stretch of our NICU journey. We couldn’t be more proud of Clifford, he is incredible!

Thank you so much for your love, support, and prayers. We’re so grateful!

With love,

Sadie
